To Market, To Market

For those who didn't know today was design market day! And all I say to you people who missed out is..... SUFFFFFFEER! Sorry to rub it in but you seriously missed out on seeing and buying and wishing you could buy some bloody ace stuff.

This is what my dreams are made of people..... so when I eagerly finished my box office shift for the film festival at 3pm at the Forum, I couldn't get across the road fast enough to Federation Square where both the Melbourne Design Market and the new Mark it @ fed square market pulling in crowds like there was no tomorrow.

These are the goodies I got.....

I'm in to writing, in fact I am obsessed with period films purely because they write scrumptious and often heated love letters filled with intrigue. We just don't write enough to one another these days. So today I picked up some yummy writing paper and if anyone is in the mood for receiving a letter - let me know - cos I now have paper to write to you on.

One of the things I LOVE about Melbourne is it's jewelry designers - there is so much to choose from, I had a wish list as long as my arm and I might do a series of blogs to show you them all soon but for now I settled with a ring from Limedrop (made out of carved wood) and and awesome brooch from Corky Saint Claire which when you look at it quickly looks like a sweet picture of swans but look closely they are copulating - I couldn't resist the cheekiness, it even says "swans copulating" at the bottom (sorry for the crappy iphone picture quality)

And probably my favourite purchase for the day was from the shop Pigeon Hole (from Perth), it was the new cup and saucer design from Rob Brandt. If you don't know this man, well you need to - no doubt you have now come across the ceramic coffee cups that look like a crushed up plastic cup - this man is the genius behind this design and his new line is the jail house tin cup. I just got myself a cup and saucer but you can get sets of cups and espresso cups - divine.

Lucky for you most of the designers and makers sell all of their amazing stuff online because the next market isn't for another six months, but perhaps I will see you at the next one.

See ya I have a cup of tea to make in my new cup!

Pushed to colourful measures in freezing times

So this week in Melbourne has been somewhat cold....... effing freezing in fact. I stood on the train platform on Monday checked the temperature on my iphone which stated 6 degrees, looked at my bare naked hands turning a shade of blue, realised I could no longer feel my fingers and thought, enough is enough.

I now own a pair of Penelope Durston angora/lambswool fingerless gloves in fuchsia pink. They are SO warm and so awesome and the fingerless part means I can still use my iphone, my ipod, wear my skull ring, still scratch my face, pick my no..... ah, thats enough.

If you are in Melbourne and are in the Fitzroy hood, head to Gertrude St and check out her cute store, cottage industries (look for the super cute garlands out the front of the store), pick up some gloves and be as warm and colourful as me this winter.
